The Faculty of Chemical Engineering (FChE) was established on 1st June 2010. The faculty consists of the Departments of Chemical, Polymer and Bioprocess Engineering. Previously all these departments together with the Department of Petroleum Engineering were under the umbrella of Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering (FKKKSA). FKKKSA was previously established on 15th March 1983 with the first group of students graduated in 1988. As a direct result of the shift in the university’s policy to give more emphasis on the fast growing chemical engineering industries,  the Departments of Chemical, Bioprocess and Polymer Engineering were congregated under the new Faculty of Chemical Engineering in 2010.

FChE prides itself on its high potential in preparing the students for success upon graduation.  Our undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes are highly regarded worldwide because we offer students a rich curriculum, cutting-edge research opportunities, and access to our staff who are experts in their fields.

The Faculty of Built Environment was first incepted as the Faculty of Architecture in 1972. The name was changed in 1974 when the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Department of Quantity Surveying was incorporated under its administrative umbrella. Courses offered then were in Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, and Quantity Surveying, offered both as a three-year semi-professional diploma programme and a professional degree structure.

The faculty was among the first to relocate itself to the new main campus in Skudai, Johor, across the causeway from Singapore in 1985. Developments in academic programmes saw the Bachelor of Building course being offered in 1988, which was changed to Bachelor of Science in Construction in 2003, and the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 1993.

The Faculty of Science was established in 1973 and in the early years it was known as Center of Science Studies (Pusat Pengajian Sains). In 1981 the Center was upgraded and renamed as the Faculty of Science of the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia at Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur.

The faculty consist of four departments namely Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Science & Technical Education.

Faculty of Petroleum and Renewable Energy Energy (FPREE) was established on 1st. June 2010 comprising of two departments: Department of Gas Engineering and Department of Petroleum Engineering. The Department of Petroleum Engineering was established much earlier in 1975 under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and later in 15th March 1983 was placed under the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering, whereas the Department of Gas Engineering was nurtured in 1995.

At the moment, the faculty offer undergraduate, master and doctor of philosophy in Petroleum, Gas, Geological and Renewable Energy Engineering programs. All educational programs are accredited by Board of Engineers, Malaysia, and recognized by Malaysian Qualification Agency. This enables our graduates to further their studies at any renowned local and overseas universities, and are well accepted by major local and global oil and gas corporations.

The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Systems is a well-established centre for higher education in the field of computer science. From as early as the 1980s we have offered a degree in Computer Science, making us an expert in the area, with courses tailored to the industrial needs.

We are an excellent centre for teaching, learning and research, producing skilled and talented graduates in high demand by the industry. Always striving for excellence, we were awarded the MSC status in 2002.We aim to provide students with computer and generic skills, with hopes of producing well-rounded, skilled and remarkable graduates. The Computer Science course is based on the international standards proposed by Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and The Computer Society of the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE-CS). The Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, was established in late 1974. Since 1st June 1995, the faculty commences operation at the main campus of the University of Technology, Malaysia in Skudai, Johor until today. The faculty has grown to become the largest center of academician and electrical engineering experts in Malaysia with more than 170 high-caliber staffs whom are involved in teaching and academic research and 56 dedicated non-academic staff. Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been certified ISO9001: 2000 from Llyod’s RQA in the scope of ‘Provision Of Full Time Tertiary Education And Learning Courses For Bachelor Of Engineering (Honours)’ since April 2004. Covering broad spectrum of electrical engineering, currently the faculty consists of eight departments focusing on advanced research and instructional courses in specific areas of activities.

The Faculty of Geoinformation Science and Engineering, has being the pioneer in Geomatics Engineering and Real Estate education of the country. The faculty has, since 1978, successfully conducted professional courses in the field of Geomatics Engineering (Surveying) and Real Estate.

In keeping abreast with the advanced technologies and fulfillment of client’s needs, the faculty has also conducted GIS, Remote Sensing and Land Administration & Development courses for more than a decade since the late 1990’s. At present a number of Phd and Masters postgraduate programs in Geomatics Engineering, Real Estate, Asset and Facilities Management, Land Administration & Development, GIS and Remote Sensing are being conducted by either research or taught courses. The undergraduates and postgraduates of the faculty are currently numbered at 1,200 and 300 students respectively served by a strong team of 90 academic staff.

  • Faculty of Management and Human Resource Development

The Faculty of Management and Human Resource Development was established in 1991. The faculty comprises of three departments, namely Department of Management, Department of Human Resource Development, and Department of Modern Languages. We offer a wide range of academic programs from bachelor to Ph.D level.

Four academic programs at bachelor’s level are Bachelor of Management (Technology), Bachelor of Management (Marketing), Bachelor of Science (Human Resource Development), and Bachelor of Psychology (Industrial and Organizational Psychology). Two academic programs at master’s level are Master of Management (Technology) and Master of Science (Human Resource Development). And at Ph.D level, Ph.D in Management. The faculty’s academic programs are designed and delivered in line with the aspiration to become a leading social science and management academic institution.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) was founded in 1975 and has been recognized for the quality of its academic and research programs. The faculty’s state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation provide the support tools for comprehensive educational and research activities.

These are supplemented by specialized university research facilities. The faculty has also received numerous national awards for both research and teaching. Our graduates have been very successful and have risen to distinguished positions in industry, government and academia. The faculty participates yearly in the Research Challenge awards. With a long history of quality engineering education and research, and a total undergraduate and graduate enrollment of about 2300 students, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UTM is one of the largest engineering faculties in Malaysia.

  • Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and Health Science

The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering & Health Science, a newly established faculty in UTM to champion the teachings and research in biomedical sciences and engineering. The faculty is committed to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education. Opportunities for education and research exist in areas of biomechanics, biomaterials, tissue engineering, medical devices, bio-signal processing, MEM implantable systems, physiological modeling and simulation, monitoring and control, as well as medical robotics. The faculty offers students unparalleled access to engineering experts in the fields of mechanical, electrical & electronics, biological, and computer science. The demands for Biomedical Engineers are increasing every year in tandem with the increasing demand for health care services, and the faculty is committed to produce engineering graduates with industrial leadership capability especially in the medical device industry.

  • Faculty of Bioscience and Bioengineering

Faculty of Bioscience and Bioengineering is the newest faculty in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Created in 2007,it acts as the interface between biological sciences and engineering. It began its history as the Department of Biology in the year 2000 which was under the auspicious of the Faculty of Science and has been offering an undergraduate program, the Bachelor of Science (Industrial Biology) since 1997.It has since 2001, generated more than 400 graduates who have acquired jobs in a variety of sectors of the industry. Beginning of the academic year 2005/06, the department offered another program at the baccalaureate level; the Bachelor of Science (Biology) which essentially focuses on basic and fundamental studies of life sciences. Currently the Faculty offers a range of MSc in research and taught courses. as well as Ph D’s.

  • Co-curriculum Centre

The Co-curriculum Center was established in 1992, with the intention on giving opportunities to student to be active in co-curriculum based on their talent, interest and abilities. Students are trained, in the aspects of planning, executing as well as to be well equipped in knowledge to prepare themselves to be the leaders for future generations. Co-curriculum subjects was started to be offered to UTM students since semester July 1992. Various efforts have been made to strengthen the co-curriculum structure in UTM. There are around 70 subjects offered which categorised to four modules – Culture and Art, Community & Self Build, Sports & Self Confidence and also Special Programme.

The  Perdana School formerly known as College of Science and Technology of University Teknologi Malaysia  was established in 1995. This was where UTM actually had its beginnings. Since the University’s relocation to Skudai in Johor however, the Kuala Lumpur Campus was maintained as a center for diploma studies – proudly carrying on an established tradition of offering engineering courses at diploma level. We have, since our establishment, catered to the manpower needs of the industry but some of our students have also ventured further. Many have successfully pursued their studies at degree level not just locally but at established overseas universities.

Located close to the city center and the world-renowned Petronas Twin Tower – the tallest building in the world, our campus is easily accessible from the city and the International Airport by public transport. It also has the added advantage of being strategically close to the industrial and commercial hub of the nation and the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). Along Jalan Tun Razak, just a stone’s throw away is the cultural heart of the city housing the National Theatre, National Art Gallery and National Library.

The UTM Centre for Islamic Studies and Social Development was established in February 1999. The objectives of the establishment of this centre is to nurture and to determine the continuousity of the university general courses, to build professional human resources with understandings in Islam within various sectors, to offer courses in socio-economy and Islamic-centered heritage, to offer experts reference and social services to the individuals, communities and institutions.

  • International Business School

The International Business School (IBS) was established in 1997 as a graduate school of management to offer management and economic courses. Formed as a Centre of Excellence at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), a premier technology university, IBS is envisioned to lead the education sector in postgraduate management education. IBS’s main focus on technology management was founded upon UTM’s core strength in science and technology. Moreover, the establishment of the school fulfills the university’s vision i.e. to provide management education and training to engineering students from UTM and other higher learning institutions. IBS provides MBA in Techno-Entrepreneurship besides MBA in Strategic Management, Venture Capital Management, short courses and consulting services.

  • Razak School

The Razak School was formerly known as Business & Advanced Technology Centre (BATC) is one of the Centres of Excellence of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and is situated in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The centre is committed to providing industry driven experience based learning programmes to promote professional, personal and intellectual development and to enhance the managerial skills and effectiveness of executives and managers to meet the challenges faced by today’s organizations.

BATC was established in 1992 as a government initiative under the direction of the former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as a result of collaboration between UTM and the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) in UK. WMG is part of University of Warwick ‘s School of Engineering. BATC was the third center to be set up in collaboration with WMG. Other centers are located in China, India, Thailand and Singapore. BATC is envisioned as a learning ground to provide top class knowledge and experience based programmes to help the Malaysian industry compete successfully in the rapidly changing regional and global markets. To date, more than 1000 working professionals from the corporate sector as well as the Government have benefited through BATC’s postgraduate degree and executive development programmes.

The Language Academy at the Johor Bahru Campus and UTM International Campus, Kuala Lumpu offers courses to meet the language and communicative needs of UTM students, staff, the public and working professional. Various services and facilities are available at the academy such as academic language courses, foreign languages, professional communication and training programs, IELTS testing and training. The Academy also offers postgraduate programs leading to the degree of Master and Doctor of Philisophy. These programs provide individuals with the opportunity to carry out original research into various areas of language and communication. The research experience will raise awareness of professionally related concerns and develop the ability to improve and make appropriate changes to current professional and communication practices. The Academy also provides other facilities and services such as Digital Language Labs, MyLinE (online resources for learning in English), Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) and Test of English Communication Skills for Graduating Students (TECS).
